Application for a PPS Number 

All residents in the State are issued with a Personal Public Service (PPS) number, which is used to access public service, welfare payments and to register employees with The Revenue Commissioners.

If you are moving to Ireland you will need to apply for a PPS number at your local Social Welfare office, a list of which can be found at- , along with information on what identification is required to support your application.

You will not be able to apply for a PPS number unless you can show you are entering into a “transaction with a specified body” which means about to take up employment of apply for welfare benefits.

You won’t be able to participate in a property transaction in Ireland unless you have a PPS number.
